Imbibing in Ancient Iberia: Celtic to Flemish Brewing and Beyond

Saturday, June 30 10:15 AM - 11:15 AM
Track: Historical
  • Location: Portland Ballroom 251-256

At the 2015, 2016, and 2017 Homebrew Cons, we examined the world of brewing in the ancient Near East, Mediterranean, and Europe. This year we move to ancient Iberia and examine the development of caelia, an ancient beer that predated the Roman conquest of Spain in 206 BCE. As an ancient Š—“melting potŠ— of cultures and a region burning with war and conquest throughout the ages, ancient Iberia affected the development of beer in Europe well beyond Roman dominion to the era of Charles I in 1516.
